My recruiter friend shared this: USA: what is your current employment’s compensation band? Europe: how much ya making?

just don't mix in toxicity among all that directness yes, being direct is needed but you can still be direct without calling into toxicity

Haha, coming from an Eastern European country this was a huge shock to the system when I first found myself in an all American team many years ago At first I thought everything I did was just amazing lol, took some time to realize that the actual message is hidden

When I worked out of Golem's office in Warsaw, I was usually the only non-Polish person in the building. I remember one of my teammates getting very irritated with me one day telling me to "spit it out already, you're speaking like such an American."

Depends on country to county but as a European, I really like the directness, especially friends from the Netherlands, they don't hold anything back.

Maybe Continental European? I feel the Brits gave us this legacy. But going west to east in Continental EU I agree. Some cultural shifts in France and Spain but a big directness shift when you hit Germany.

Yeah, it’s not just @timdaub.eth. It becomes really obvious when you’re a first-generation American from a European family.

The one personality trait that would make it hard for me to live in the US. Must be though there for people who have difficulties with reading subtle social cues…
