Whether we like it or not, @zora and @rodeodotclub are redefining cryptoart. They may be making each sale smaller, but its in the process of making art more crypto-native, with a more fluid market for every artwork. Its taking me a while to appreciate this, mostly because they made such dramatic and sudden changes to their minting prices and procedures. What are your feelings on this?

If they can actually achieve the stated goal of millions of users collecting instead of just consuming, it will be a game changer (IG of art collection) If not, it's a race to the bottom in terms of pricing I'm not convinced that there are millions of users interested in art at any price Seems more likely to work for viral type content

i haven't 100% formed my opinion yet. agree with you that it's definitely become more crypto-native now, the question is whether you want to play the game by these rules. some links and threads you might want to read: https://warpcast.com/riotgoools/0x7cba9537 https://warpcast.com/tinyrainboot/0x962e5283 https://warpcast.com/tinyrainboot/0x473829b6

I feel it's stepping away from being crypto-native due to the focus on traditional methods of interaction to increase their user base. Not much speaks to the ideals of crypto besides collect how you want, but that can be replicated literally anywhere. Still not dismissing what they are doing but highly skeptical.

I would love to hear what the really big, serious art collectors think about it. Is an artist devaluing their art in their eyes? Or do they appreciate being able to be part of their process? I agree that the percentage of people interested in art is small, regardless of how or how much it’s sold for. Either these sharing apps will tempt some hesitant collectors to buy “real” drops, or we’re likely to get millions of people selling crap for pennies (for some, these will add up). Maybe some artists would make “fine art” for real sales and a more “popular” art for mass transactions. But others would not care to. Too many possibilities to predict. Until we see which way things are going, it seems relatively harmless to share WIPS and outtakes, especially if there’s an associated sale. Use people’s addiction to collecting things to help your marketing.

My subjective opinion: I think everything is temporary as long as it is sharing the space with "spirit of art". When the freedom of just art is broken then the audience is loosing the interest. The same thing with platforms who expanding volume artificially in closed clubs in same time loosing the art quality and loosing interest of audience.

frictionless minting has both pros and cons. having minted work on both platforms, it’s good to have choice and I’m glad to see them experimenting. I don’t see these platforms as more crypto-native for art. the most crypto-native approaches for art to me have more friction and emphasize artist and collector freedom.

I love the idea of Rodeo. I interpreted it as a being a place for works-in-progress, experiments, collection announcements, etc. Mostly, I use it for things I would not make available on a dedicated art marketplace. Rodeo recently made a big change in how posts are collected with the introduction of their new in-app wallet. It took me a few days to piece together information from various sources to get a sufficient idea of how the rodeo wallet works, and wether or not it poses a security risk to my external wallet. While I do continue to use Rodeo, I'm not a fan of being forced to use their new in-app wallet.

appreciate it! i hear you on big shifts, they come with a lot of new details and take time to get to get used to the new medium. it's cool to see them paying off. also small detail: @zora is the only one with a fluid market for each post. rodeo is conceptually running on the older version of zora (no secondary)
