Truly remarkable how despite steady growth Farcaster always gets left out of commentary like this. There is a genuine parallel universe invisibility effect beyond the cryptowall. I don’t think this is a problem to be solved. Rather, it’s a regime boundary to be respected and understood. Just as you think of your insurance spending and regular consumption spending in separate buckets, your social media attention budget has separate buckets. Your financial budget has buckets: Tax, retirement savings (including equity part of mortgage), insurance, emergency liquidity, and consumption. Your attention budget has analogous buckets. Tax = news. Retirement savings = learning. Insurance = Censorship resistant media use. Emergency liquidity = email/slack/zoom other work channels. Consumption = regular infotainment media, including social.

dont think its only that. i keep a pretty close tabs on different communities in the ecosystems for my writing. the type of crypto positive people that i do see (some on bsky, lots on nostr) is that its the type that is very distrustful of anything that reeks too much of centralisation

Hey Laurens! Good to see you here. I'd add that Bluesky didn't have permissionless signups until relatively recently (after Farcaster, infact)...BSky (the team) has been mostly focused on labeling infrastructure to ban harmful content, and the community has also been obsessed over this...however I don't think BlueSky has had to have it's mettle tested against industrial bot spammers yet. Crypto is really good at attracting spammers very early on, which is why I assert the Farcaster ecosystem has the most highly developed anti-spam mechanisms of all the 3 major DiD-based platforms (FC, BSky, Nostr). Moreover, anti-spam is the other side of the same coin as promoting-good-content, and Warpcast has been nailing it for close to a year now. My bet is that BSky is not ready for real spam, and my hunch is that they will have to fall back to "enter your phone number, no VoIP numbers allowed" to sign up.

yo! both masto and bsky have a sort of buildin spam protection in that their audience is less valuable for crypto spammers. mastodons spam protection is so garbage as to be nonexistant and spam is not a signifiicant issue. bsky might be different now that brazil is onboard tho (cont)

Other Fediverse servers like Pleroma have usable filtering for administrators. I used it recently because there is a bridge between Nostr and the Fediverse and it was getting flooded with instantly spun up Nostr identities replying to almost every comment (Nostr has literally nothing to prevent this because the people that make it insist on making it very mistake instead of learning from other decentralized networks)
