Future iPhones may replace volume buttons with Action Buttons On the website of the U.S. patent office found another β€œrevolution” from Apple. The official patent documentation states that all three left iPhone buttons could be replaced with Action Buttons. Thus, the volume buttons will potentially get the opportunity to customize while retaining the usual function. The innovation doesn't end there. The paper claims that the Action Button could be used in other portable electronic devices. Specific examples are not given, but the vague wording suggests that customizable keys could debut in any compact Apple device from Mac to Watch. https://www.patentlyapple.com/2024/11/apples-action-button-patent-was-published-this-week-revealing-future-details-and-its-expansion-to-th.html

Wallace and Gromit became the face of the β€œFilmed on iPhone” campaign Aardman Studios' animation will grace the facade of London's Battersea Power Station. The video was shot on an iPhone 16 Pro Max telephoto lens. It is a six-minute Christmas video that will be shown until the holiday. The two towers of the power station have become the Christmas trees that decorate Wallace and Gromit. As you walk by, you can watch the cartoon and take selfies. And they didn't use any professional cameras. Just eight iPhones and a Dragonframe Tether frame-by-frame animation app. The shots were taken in 4K ProRAW and then spliced in 6K to make the final video look good on the towers. Apple details the process on a separate page. https://www.apple.com/uk/apple-christmas-trees/

The Information: iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will get an aluminum frame The upcoming flagship iPhones that Apple will unveil next September will get an aluminum frame for the first time. This is reported by Wayne Ma of The Information. According to Mr. Ma's sources, the top half of the iPhone's back panel will get an aluminum rectangular camera protrusion made out of something other than 3D glass, as previously seen on all models starting with the iPhone 11. The bottom half will be glass for wireless charging to work. https://www.theinformation.com/articles/apples-thin-iphone-has-no-physical-sims-that-could-dampen-china-sales

M4 Mach graphics turned out to be more powerful than in NVIDIA RTX 4070 and 3080 Ti Blender Open Data has released the results of testing the graphics module of Apple's most powerful chip. M4 Mach scored an average score of 5208, slightly ahead of NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti and 4070 desktop solutions - 5185 and 5125 points respectively. This is a great result, considering that the Apple chip can deliver such power from the battery. Still, there is room for growth: the mobile RTX 4080 was just ahead of the M4 Mach with the result of 5312. At the same time, the gap between Apple's solution and RTX 4090 for notebooks amounted to 30% - the latter scored 6893 points. https://opendata.blender.org/benchmarks/query/?compute_type=OPTIX&compute_type=CUDA&compute_type=HIP&compute_type=METAL&compute_type=ONEAPI&group_by=device_name&blender_version=4.2.0

Ross Young: M4's MacBook Pro gets a quantum dot display Apple has applied quantum dots with a separate film on top of the LCD, which allows to improve the color reproduction of the new MacBook Pro and keep the proven technology of matrix manufacturing. This is the conclusion of analyst Ross Young. In terms of response speed LCD-display with a film on quantum dots is inferior to a full QD-OLED panel, but provides better brightness and contrast compared to previous IPS-matrixes. All MacBook Pro screens, including nano-textured models, have received the high-tech film. Rumor has it that the MacBook Pro will get a full OLED display in 2026 at the earliest. https://x.com/DSCCRoss/status/1857208745014776215
