Epic Games has complained to the European Commission about Apple Epic Games press service wrote that Apple has rejected the application to launch Epic Games Store on iOS for the second time. The Cupertinians believe that the "Download" and "Install" buttons in EGS are too similar to those of the App Store. In addition, Apple doesn't like that the labelling about in-app purchases of epics is "too similar" to their own. Epic Games parry by saying that all the design decisions, right down to the name, are made to make it easy and convenient for users. Apple's stubbornness does not please Epic Games, so they complained to the European Commission, allegedly the Cupertinos violate the DMA (Digital Markets Act). It is quite possible that Apple for this can fly another fine. Recall, the European regulator has already revealed the fact of violation of the DMA on the part of the Cupertinovs. If the company does not change anything in its policy until March 2025, it will be fined $35 billion 🌑️

Leaked: Apple is working on a new home device Apple is working on yet another home device, but what that device is is still unknown. Parsing the code from the backend (the day before it became known about the alleged chips in the new iPhones), enthusiasts found a brand new identifier - HomeAccessory17,1. This is not HomePod, as that one has a different identifier - AudioAccessory. Judging by the ID labelling, the home device will use the latest A18 chip, the same one used in future iPhones. Probably, it will be some kind of gadget with artificial intelligence support. In addition to this, the code found references to a new Apple TV. According to rumours, the launch of the updated version is just scheduled for this year

Apple has released Game Porting Toolkit 2 to help port more AAA games from macOS to iOS The beta version of macOS Sequoia includes Game Porting Toolkit 2, which will make it easier for developers to port large projects to the mobile platform. The tool allows you to assess whether it's worth porting a game to Mac from Windows, and also speeds up optimisation for iOS and iPadOS. The new tool allows you to use more specific software for game development, makes it easier to work with ray tracing and supports AVX2 instructions. If we talk about porting games from macOS to iOS, Game Porting Toolkit 2 has become "smarter". For example, vibration implemented on the gamepad can be easily played with Haptic Touch on the iPhone. The full version of the SDK will be released alongside the release of iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia in September. Do you think more AAA games will appear on iOS and iPadOS? πŸ€”

A18 chips will be put in all iPhones 16 A code has been discovered in Apple's back-end that confirms that all devices will have the same A-series chip. The identifiers of different iPhone models use the same number: this suggests that the chip will be the same in them. In comparison, the iPhone 15 had different numbers in the IDs for different models, just like the chips are different. The base iPhone 15 has the A16 Bionic, while the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max already have the A17 Pro chip. Using the same high-performance chip could expand the availability of Apple Intelligence. After the massive announcement, it was strange to hear that the AI would only be fully functional on the Pro versions of smartphones.

Apple has retired the iPhone X The company's first smartphone with Face ID has officially gone vintage. This means that more than five but less than seven years have passed since its release. Apple Stores and authorised suppliers will be able to repair the gadget for the next two years, but only if parts are available. The first-generation AirPods and the original HomePod suffered a similar fate. And while the smartphone and headphones made a "revolution" and set a trend for years to come, the speaker on release received very mixed reviews. It's a little sad to realise that Apple's first smartphone with Face ID is already considered an oldie, because it seems like it came out quite recently.

Ming-Chi Kuo: AirPods will have their own Face ID analogue ♻️ According to the famous analyst, Apple's wireless headphones will have infrared cameras like Face ID. And it is necessary for integration with the headset Vision Pro and future mixed reality helmets Apple Vision. Earlier about the novelty spoke Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. According to the idea of Apple headphones should improve the perception of spatial audio. For example, you watch a YouTube video with Vision Pro, pay attention to some object, and at that moment AirPods emphasise the sound to improve the experience of spatial audio. Plus with the headphones, it will be possible to introduce more variety of gestures. According to Mr Kuo, the component supplier for the new version of AirPods will be Apple's long-time partner Foxconn. The release is scheduled for the distant 2026.

Apple has started developing the next operating systems. They will be presented at WWDC in June 2025. This is reported by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg πŸ“ˆ According to the insider, the company has chosen the following names as code names; - iOS 19 - "Luck", - macOS 16 - "Cheer", - watchOS 12 - "Nepali", - visionOS 3 - "Discovery". Their development is going according to Apple's usual plan, meaning this isn't some early launch. The fact is that the company is already working on the iPhone 17, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Vision unmarked Pro, and the next Macs. And they should already be running pre-release versions of those axes.

Apple has improved performance of iPhones on iOS 18 πŸ”‹ With each new iOS, older iPhones turn into "pumpkins" as Apple slows them down - have you encountered this opinion? Unexpectedly, but now you can argue with this statement with quite valid arguments. The authors of 9to5mac took an iPhone 15 Pro Max and ran the Core ML Neural Engine performance test in Geekbench on it. On iOS 17.5.1, the results come out around 6,000 points. Then the first developer beta of iOS 18 was installed on the same iPhone. The final result was impressive - 7,818 points! Simply put, the performance of the cores for neurocomputing has increased by 25%! All this leads to the fact that the performance of different architectures increases. Somewhere more and somewhere less, but it increases. For example, MobibleNet v3 has only a 2% increase, while the MobileVit v2 SSD has a 700% increase!

Media: iPhone 16 Pro will get an NPU more powerful than in Apple M4 and Snapdragon X Elite Gizmochina portal claims that the neural processor inside the Pro versions of the new line of iPhones could get computing speeds of more than 45 TOPS (trillion operations per second). This means that the NPU in Apple's smartphones will leave behind Qualcomm's solutions and will even be more powerful than a similar unit in the iPad Pro 2024. For comparison, Apple's current flagship NPU has 36 TOPS, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a modest 15 TOPS. If the difference with the current generation of iPhones isn't too much of a difference, then the poor Snap has completely faded. Although, given the release of the Snapdragon X Elite, Qualcomm will be able to offer something competitive in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Most likely, the company, like last time, will announce the novelty in October.

Russia is preparing to ban the iPhone πŸ‘€ In the database of the State Duma appeared a bill that prohibits the sale of gadgets without access to RuStore. These include Apple tablets and smartphones. The authors of the document believe that the company imposes the choice of applications on users and prevents fair competition. Lawmakers note that the iOS-version of RuStore already exists, so it remains for Apple to give access to an alternative, as it did in the European Union. If the law is passed, it will come into force from 1 September 2025

Apple could be fined $38bn for violating the Digital Markets Act The European Commission has accused Apple of violating the DMA for making it difficult to distribute third-party app shops. In addition, the regulator believes that it is difficult for end users to access the shops. If Apple does not change its policy by March 2025, the EU will fine the company 10% of its annual revenue, which is approximately equal to $38bn. However, the misfortunes of the Cupertinovs do not end here. The Core Technology Fee tax has also caught the attention of the European Commission. According to the CTF, third-party developers must pay Apple 0.5 € for each application installation if the number of downloads exceeds the limit of 1 million. The details of this precedent are still being discussed, but the company is likely to face another fine.

The next ChatGPT will come out with a degree right off the bat πŸŽ“ OpenAI CTO Mira Murati said in an interview with Dartmouth Engineering that ChatGPT will get intelligence "at the level of a PhD." According to her, between versions of the chatbot can clearly trace the growth of its abilities: ChatGPT-3 was close to the level of thinking of a child, and ChatGPT-4 is already more like a high school student. Meanwhile, Murati admitted that the future version of the chatbot will not become a know-it-all. The tech director claims that the neuron will be very smart, but in narrow specializations it will not be able to compete with humans. The interview also talked about the approximate release date of ChatGPT-5. Murati emphasized that if everything goes according to plan, the AI will be released in late 2025-early 2026.
