EU required Apple to give third-party devices privileges of the company's ecosystem

Yesterday, the EU introduced edits to the ‘Digital Markets Act’ that require Apple to provide some chips to its products. All changes should get beta status as early as iOS 19, and fully functional in iOS 20.

Among the requirements: the ability to respond to notifications, which was exclusive to the Apple Watch; the option to automatically pair with iPhones, like AirPods, and switch audio between the two devices; the admission of AirDrop and AirPlay analogues; permission to run in the background for individual apps; access to bank tokens via NFC in the absence of an iPhone, and automatic connectivity with Wi-Fi to share passwords.
