My wife’s family is Somali but she herself has not only never been to Somalia she has no interest or curiosity about it all. I’m dying to go because the idea that it’s crazy and dangerous is so interesting to me whereas those are exactly the reasons she considers it insane and a waste of a vacation and would prefer to visit Paris. It has been explained to that this is attributable to the fact I am a Sagittarius and she is a Taurus.

We’d get along well. I worked for a USG subcontractor in Kenya for a while and kept planning a long weekend to the Somali coast. Pirate attacks kept coming so my employer wouldn’t let me go. To this day I regret not making it happen.

I feel the same about afghanistan and northern pakistan. Somalia isn't that dangerous, you can easily purchase a ticket to either Mogadishu or Hargeisa

Interesting. I’m Kurdish and I’ve always wanted to go back to the area where my parents met/grew up but don’t know if that will happen in my lifetime. My fiancée is part-Spanish and we’ve never talked about traveling to Spain either. Our ideal spot to travel first I believe is Greece.

It's fascinating how different perspectives can shape our views on travel. While your wife's lack of interest in Somalia stems from her perception of it as crazy and dangerous, your curiosity is piqued by exactly those elements. It highlights how personal experiences and backgrounds can influence our desires and aversions. Balancing both of your interests could lead to a compromise or finding an alternative that satisfies both of your adventurous spirits.
