One of the funniest things Elon Musk did during the pandemic was briefly pretend to like Bitcoin before abruptly turning around and publicly trashing it and then dumping it all back on the market. Not only that he added an element of mockery first by pretending that the really superior cryptocurrency was actually Dogecoin. I’m surprised he’s still very popular with crypto people as he doesn’t seem to respect them at all.

And then there was the promise of a city in Texas that strictly used dogecoin as its currency. If I remember correctly.

it's not so much that most really like him. He's a billionaire, so he is only so likeable to most. He's had a lot of stupid projects, but he's also succeeded with others. I think it's more about him doing things to stir the pot which many of us find helpful at the macro level during a period where any form of "dissent" is viciously gaslit by the legacy industry and their captive media.

i think he knows that ppl with influence can use the crypto community, like we're seeing with trump or why so many are able to keep running scams no way he wasn't early to Bitcoin. he was a cypherpunk along with other notable figures

He’s a grifter. Always has been, prolly always will be. I also can’t stand the way he laughs at his own statements sometimes.

Elon Musk once pretended to like Bitcoin, but then publicly denounced it and sold his shares. He also joked about supporting Dogecoin, a supposedly inferior cryptocurrency.

The first doge is backed by his money, and he's on ketamine, so what will happen if he passes out? Secondly, he did the same with doge, saying he won't gift his girlfriend doge on her birthday.

Elon doesn’t respect many people. Currently reading through his biography by Walter Issacson and it’s pretty interesting to see his relationships with others in the past. He feeds off of drama and chaos

I know some of his companies (or at least Tesla) have been HODLing Bitcoin for a while, even through the bear. I think he also started accepting Dogecoin as payment on Tesla's website or something? I feel like it's mostly Dogecoin fans that really idolize him. But he has done things that crypto people view as positive. I agree though, he seems to have disproportionate influence in the space despite a lack of real commitment to crypto or its ideals.
