Good thing we have zero carriers around to deal with any escalation.

Most notably: The UN determined that China had no lawful claims within its so-called nine dash line, the boundary it uses to claim a large swathe of the South China Sea. 

Beijing has refused to recognize the ruling and any ship trying to supply the Sabina Shoal is "deliberately" going to crash into Chinese ships by attempting to bring supplies there.

Heard a story this morning about the events that has been unfolding in the South China Sea over territorial disputes between China and the Philippines over a submerged reef located in the Spratly Islands. 

Over 20 years ago China built a small structure on one of the reef, Mischief Reef to be exact, curiously I Google mapped it to see what the reef looked like today. To my surprise it has now turned into a whole military base. 

While continuing my dive down the rabbit hole, it seems the whole area around the Spratly Islands is filled with billions of barrels of untapped oil and natural gas. Even thought the area is closer to the Philippines than it is to China, seem greed is the motivating factor in these event.
