Indonesia’s founding leaders outlined a set of national principles that somehow successfully accommodated nationalism, internationalism, Islam and Hinduism, all into one coherent identity. It’s an impressive synthesis that other countries failed to replicate.

The only group they couldn't accomodate were the communists. Tuned into a bit of an issue in '65, which led to Sukarno getting ousted and inadvertently enabling the genocide of millions. The Act of Killing, hell of a film.
