Speaking fluent English is such a privilege in the present day. King of languages. I speak a few other languages but I can’t say any of them are nearly as useful. Persian would’ve been useful 200 years ago but now it’s basically something to impress people at parties. The fact that almost everyone in Europe seems to speak English has also demotivated me from learning other European languages even though some are beautiful on their own terms. I can understand French I just don’t feel a pressing need to finish studying it.

Same experience; so demotivating one wonders what’s the point. I forgot to add as well even many foreign languages are becoming increasingly permeated with English words or even rendering themselves in English text now.
