As much as I love this, I’ve not found it to be true so far. Some of the most intelligent people I’ve met have often been the least happy. They’re often critical and unsatisfied with things around them.

why the original statement is somewhat provocative: shouldn't intelligence mean the ability to find or create a situation that results in happiness?

If that’s how define intelligence then sure, there’s not much discussion. But I think the existing word already contains too much other meaning. I challenge you find an existing, or coin a new, word for the capacity you are thinking of. :)
