I don’t say this flippantly, but I’ve always been surprised (though glad) that assassinations are not more common. It doesn’t seem that hard for a single person to pull off with some thought and planning, and even easier for a militant organization or state actor. Drones will likely make it even easier.

The timing of the gunshot and the sound of the bullet hitting the ground don't match up, which suggests a significant distance. I can't feel the heavy recoil of a 5.56 caliber round, so it's likely either from that family or an M14EBR. Interestingly, there's minimal collateral damage to the surrounding tissue, and the shot was semi-automatic. So we're not dealing with a hunting rifle or a bolt-action sniper rifle. It's probably an AR-10 or an M14 from the 10-AR or M14 family. In a country where you can use 308 and 338 calibers, you'd have to be crazy to use an intermediate caliber.
