so much euphoria on FC timeline about degen. 🫥 it’s a memecoin with questionable allocation, centralized operation, and appears to be mostly closed-source. do you really think this is a sustainable future for FC and decentralized social media protocols?

Imo, it’s about creating a flywheel of community members that will circulate cash-flow within a positive-sum way. Currently, if you have a Farcaster account you’re a “creator”, and if you’re building in public and can crowdsource and fund, power to you. It’s working so far.

Everyone is euphoric when they are making money. It’s not like FC and decentralized social depend on Degen or similar tokens though. I think of Degen more of a proof of concept of the power of the FC community. The distribution mechanic was interesting for that. Up to the team to show they can take it further.

it's not the memecoin anymore. it's an L3 and seems like the goal is to build the ecosystem around it. not arguing with the other parts though. but what you can do, I think they are doing a good job to promote FC to others.

to me it is an experiment and a great example of a social token that allows a mechanism to pay creators for their art on a social media platform which is powerful and a needed shift in the space.

As with Threads and FriendTech, FC is a move away from Twitter, so moving in the right direction. Of course, a big question on my mind is the sustainability of $DEGEN beyond the last drop season. Big caveat: I'm in no way an expert.

It certainly will break down at some point, as it isn't sustainable in it's current form for an extended period of time. But it's absolutely perfect for the launch of an app like Warpcast. But yeah, down the road we need something else...
