What was the novel you read as a tween or teen that twisted you up inside and made you feel years older?

We read Orwell’s Animal Farm in my 8th grade class. It was sandwiched between Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes (which I also enjoyed).

But Animal Farm captivated me in a very different way. It made me not just want to figure out what happened in the story, but figure out how the real world worked. 

Great book.

I watched The Fountainhead in high school without knowing anything about Ayn Rand. It wasn’t until years later that I learned about the author, but the movie had left a big influence on me.
