Of the major American tech cities — SF, NY and LA — LA is probably cheapest (but might be in an out of the way neighborhood). Slightly smaller cities like Seattle, Austin, Miami, can be good. Depends on what you're optimizing for? SF is most expensive, but still highest talent density. NY and LA more diverse.

Okay chatgpt is scary good. 1. Houston, Texas: Houston is known for its affordable cost of living and has a variety of neighborhoods to choose from. The average cost of a three-bedroom apartment is around $1,500 per month.

There is huge value to being IRL in SF and NYC, LA to a lesser extent. I’ve lived within that budget in a good place in SF (inner sunset)— it’s doable. NYC i would say its unlikely for that price unless you live far out in brooklyn or queens. check out listingsproject.com for that

This was 1 month in total in Denver, SF, Boston, New Haven, NY. - Where you will spend more: transportation (3x) - Where you may spend less: - Accommodation: if you manage to take hotel rooms or Airbnbs together. - Food: One of you for a day takes care of groceries + cooking https://i.imgur.com/frkAgn0.png

For three young guys (and assuming tech culture) on a budget, Austin would be a clear affordable living winner for me.
