If you were to buy a 15'' MacBook for low-computation work, would you choose Air or Pro? Want to buy something that's easy to carry in the backpack and would serve 5+ yrs

15 inch M2 Air is the best computer I’ve owned in a decade. I would imagine the M4 is coming at WWDC but M3 is out now.

How low is low? For me the Air was always a glorified iPad-cum-keyboard, i.e. I would use it only for non-computational tasks. Five+ years might be ambitious if running your computations is borderline for the laptop’s capacity at the onset

MacBook Air M1, although I'm not sure if there's a 15-inch version. But it still has the original Air shape which in my opinion is better than the current design. And it's very light. M chips are so good that even the first version (M1) is good enough for 99% of people.

I directed a fast-paced 4-building hybrid IT environment with a 13” Air M1 and it did great daily. I had to set up a side computer for network scanning, but only to keep my personal available for remote use. I would go with newer, tbh pro if you need it, but air is still a quality product.

16 MBP is very heavy and can actually be felt in the backpack. But it will easily last 5+ years. Air is much more portable but in my view it it might not last as long. Depends on your preferences, I could imagine. Also, the Air might do significantly worse in some aspects like performance

If you think that you might want to attach more than one external monitor to it then get the pro. I love my m1 air but multiple monitor support is a nightmare. This is the big differentiator between pro and non pro for me.

If your 2015 only seems a “little slow” then you’ll be blown away by the 15” M3 Air - get that for sure - the Pros are nice, but heavy
