based on longterm personal usage (and passive observation of SOPA/PIPA blackout), this is ellen pao tier policy. plenty of room to reverse course, recent mod post implies they severely overpriced the rate. then again, they changed API policy in reaction to AI companies, so this is their way of capitalizing on crawlers
