A common reply I see is: "you just set it up so that your outgroup *is* the set of people doing bad things" The challenge with this approach is that "people doing good things", for any reasonable definition of good, are not a coherent social group, or at least if they are, that configuration is very unstable.

I finished "The Regime", and while I'd started enjoying it, I found myself frustrated by the end, clearly for the exact reasons the showrunners wanted: The show cynically ends in no progress, settles in the status quo. Of course: what I wanted wasn't a tv show about a revolution, but an actual societal transformation.
