I’ve seen a lotta folks posting about how art contests are exploitative/engagement farmy and I apologize if that’s the case 😞 I’m chronically ill and thought it might be an effective, low-spoons way to dole out my daily tips What are you thoughts? Should I keep doing em? Is there a better way to do them?

I think that knife cuts both ways because for artists it is also a chance to get their art seen. I very much welcome the contests and I hope they will stay around help growing the digital art world.

Hey, I think you're good, yours is actually the only one I take part it - you're established in the community and it is clear that you're doing contests to showcase and support fellow artists. The ones people are complaining about are exploiting artists for engagements, similar to shilling and engagement farming on X

oh man ppl always find a way to complain. If they don't want to share no-one is forcing them to. Personally I like the encouragement of the contest, in moderation. Esp if they have a theme. Looking for cool art to tip can be quite time consuming and why not let them come to you.

I’m just little ole me, outspoken but tbh quite shy, also chronically ill, & a lot of my energy goes to my screenwriting/filmmaking. However, I work in other digital art mediums & they have thrived when inspired to enter the contests I have when hosted by good humans such as yourself. It gets me out of my shy shell.

If we didn't want to do them, we wouldn't participate. 🤷‍♀️ That said, if other people start posting them in this channel & this channel becomes all about art contests/engagement farm casts, I'll probably be less likely to stick around. Yours is okay bc you're qualified to run it/a community leader.

These are art shares with awards. It’s not a contest where you’re asking for spec work. You’re asking for people to share art to increase visibility and some get a generous reward. Keep it up. ✌🏻💙

I suggest to keep doing them. Those people who complain are just sad individuals looking to engage in anger fuel. Take me for example I get so much flak for using AI with my physical work but I still keep doing it. My art my rules. Your contest your rules.

IM0, Art contests have been around since, Well…art. I have also seen some of the same people make fun of new people for simply doing “good morning” posts, thinking they will get tips for nothing- assuming that maybe those people aren’t just nice people that would like to say good morning 🤷🏻‍♀️

You are running a channel called open call to support artists. It wouldn't really make sense for you to not run them. Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is farming people or helping them, in your case it is clearly the latter. Keep on doing what you are doing.

Personally I think if it's done right it's ok and it's a way for artists to showcase their talents 🤷🏻‍♂️ for me its better than the like, recast, tag friends, follow for chance to win x amount of my allowance type casts.
