people on Twitter/Fc love to put the blame for inflation on the money supply or call out Powell as a „bond villain.“ But, e.g. the PATRIOT system, which is essentially a bunch of trucks, costs $1.1B! And it has no economic purpose but to kill/defend. Think about this that next time u want to blame central banks

as much I hate mosquitos, I cognitively entertain the nuance that they provide a major food source to other animals. maybe there's no direct economic purpose to kill/defend/deter, yet at the same time I can see money circulating, so it's nth-order. also not a fan of the cost disease, which is an oligopoly problem.

Sure there is a multiplier effect to government spending, but the original spend is unproductive It’s true that governments need to be strategic, and can’t just spend on things that economists like But imo there is so much effectively wasted like this, in the US and my own country the UK

this is the eternal debate between normative & positive realities. imho, this leads to the concept of a cost of hegemonic influence for the sake of economic benefit (i.e. "trading unmolested"). if Thanos or Dr. Manhattan snapped away all weapons, there'd still be other negative externalities. but we live w/ ourselves.
