What bugs me about the Base/content coin stuff is that it leans into the idea that going viral and getting rich will bring normies into crypto. But all it really does is reinforce the belief that crypto is a scam. Money isn’t the hook that’s gonna win the masses

Its really tough. The issue is for the past 10 years, unless you did a hard STEM and worked for or started a tech company, the only way to get rich is becoming an internet celebrity for the majority of people. Its pretty much statistically impossible to dig yourself out of a hole any other way. The internet empowered youth from anywhere to start a channel and capture advertising dollars. As stated by @dfern.eth , the web2 model for this is far worse in terms of take rates and arguably a worse scam, so are we wrong for optimizing for this when this is what the current crop of internet youth actually want?

somewhat, but the more important message is that Web2 is worse. You go viral, Zuck & Elon make all the money from ad revenue (and maybe they share a pittance with you w.r.t. Twitter). If crypto is a scam, Facebook is feudalism.

🎯 It’s pretty off putting how they’re trying to spin this like it’s some way to onboard the next 100 million users. But really it’s just another iteration of memecoins, which most people are tired of If they continue to try to force this narrative it is going to backfire tremendously with normies

I'm uncomfortable with calling it ownership when it's on an L2 this probably never would be a problem, but it's besides the point I think at the tail-end of this experiment is just only fans' style subscription content
