Social Fi Achievements

Today I started a new renewal project. This is a cupboard which we got from a relative, the art nouveau details (that I adore) make me think that it must be from the 1900-1910s. 

The top of it was worn, so I decided to refresh it. I gave it a scrub, the wood turned out to be very soft, so it was nice and easy. So I felt brave enough to attempt a full renewal with the use of a paint stripper on bigger surfaces - haven't done that before, so was curious to try.

Turns out the paint stripper works better when there is a thick layer of paint, so it did almost nothing, except for making a mess 🥴 

I brought out the sandpaper once again, and sure enough it's working much better. But it takes so much effort, that I'm feeling like I bit more than I can chew 😫 

And I also wanted to see if the inside would look better if it was lighter, and it does... (see the difference on the second photo?)

Now I have to sandpaper all of it by hand, cause I already started! Maybe I'll have to bring a mini grinder from home.

My New Year's gift for myself was finishing this cupboard 🥳💗🎉

It's now this beautiful auburn colour, I love how it fits the original panels. And I left the inside light coloured, with only a layer of clear finish. 

In the meantime I learned that the wood burning on the panels was created by hand by someone in the family at the turn of the century! A mom and her daughter actually. How cool is that for a hobby, wood burning beautiful timeless designs on furniture?? 

This project has been the most challenging for me so far, but also so fulfilling 💓 Seeing the finished result was just glorious!

I'm with you a 100%!! The downside is that the older the furniture, the pricier the restoration. But there are many pieces in great condition where cosmetic restoration like I did would be enough 😊

I am delighted! I love it!

My dream is to have antique furniture at home and restore it. Considering that today it is very difficult to find furniture of such quality.
