P.S. your website is super clean, I can see it's a static site, are you using a specific framework?

Recommend the book Range by David Epstein if interested in the idea of Generalists: https://images.app.goo.gl/3VPjdLeJiPQyf59R8

It's an approach that I've taken in my career, it's not easy but I felt more freedom and could follow my curiosity. Career progression is likely the hardest challenge as people generally feel more comfortable dealing with clear delineations.

really like the mental model of T vs U. Do you think U shaped hybrids will find it super hard to actually get a job? seems like most places are super optimised for T hybrids

I like the two types of Hybrid classification. Did not quite think about that way. Agree with the insight about U shaped people being able to break plateaus. Kind of makes sense - specializing in two widely unrelated skills gives a more varied skillset than T shaped skillset.

Imagine a Hill Shaped skillsets. A peak hill which is your primary domain, the height of the hill signifies the level of expertise. And then few adjacent hills that signifies complimentary domain expertise. And the height of the hill will be likely be less than the peak primary hill.
