I’ve had a strong emotional reaction to this claim of being able to teach any 2y/o to read at a 2nd grade level. I support pursuing incredible things but don’t understand how you can believe in the heritability of iq and this, too. How much of these results are selection effects?

Can we improve literacy? YES Can kids do more than we currently believe? YES Is chapter books at 2 an outlier outcome? YES I don’t believe this should be controversial, but I fear saying this on X will get me labeled as a decel

I think kids need to be allowed to just be kids and learn through play at age 2, not be taught to read.

I did a course on development during my psych degree and it was learning about what is the appropriate age to learn XYZ There are physical limitations like the standard 2 yr olds tongue is not physically developed yet so they can’t talk I would be interested to know how they overcome some of these limitations

This is an awful idea. Kids’ brains need to develop in a certain way. Reading by 2nd grade is actually unimportant and detrimental

What’s the point of reading at age 2? I still haven’t learned and I’m doing okay.
