Nice try but I still think it’s a horrible idea to open up meaningful communication pathways with animals and I stand by that

Because all the upside comes with equivalent downside and I think the downsides would be horrible The year is 2035. Your racist dog keeps saying the n-word whenever you take him for a walk, the whales demand reparations and we are seriously considering orangutan voting rights

The downsides boil down to: humans are assholes and now we have every animal telling us so

I just want to be an asshole at peace. I can’t even imagine the ramifications to human diet. I think vegetarianism and veganism can work for some but definitely not for everyone. Also giant plant monocultures might seem less morally dubious than a meat-based diet but they are just as terrible for the environment. In conclusion you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t

I agree with you 100% but even as I type it I realize that a lot of people I know would probably call me a fascist for this comment alone. A lot of problems in the society are caused by very short term thinking. My suspicion is that a lot of this goes downstream from democracy and the fact that people get elected on short terms. There is simply no incentive to plan for long term prosperity/ improvement when you can give people short term gains that are going to mess things up for the next person.
