I had no idea this was still a thing, feels like smoking became forbidden real quick in tech circles and junk food followed similarly but maybe Iโ€™m also speaking from my own internal biases because we pay 40-50% tax in canada yet pay out-of-pocket for overpriced dental ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm in Canada right now and I will say, it makes America feel so ghetto. I'm not saying either country is perfect, but I am consistently struck how nice all of the public stuff is. I saw this tweet I deeply agree with โ€” paraphrasing but it said America is a rich third world country. None of the wealth is visible in the polis.

Restrooms in the airport with free feminine hygiene products (in America we have broken vending machines, and if we set them out free they would all get stolen instead of women just taking what they need. Gorgeous parks. Parks not filled with trash and bums. I went and did sauna and cold plunge at a community health center. It was huge and as nice as a Lifetime Fitness and cost me $7 CAD to get in. It was filled with truly all ages from seniors doing water aerobics to families playing in the pool. In America you would have to pay for a hugely expensive gym membership to get this type of amenity. And I'm sure it pays off as a preventative health measure.
