I got into a huge fight today with someone who believes Elon is this free speech savior. I don’t I think he is censorious just in the opposite direction And more than that .. you know, it’s his right to do that. He owns the place. Parag ran it how he wanted and now Elon can too. You’re in their house you play by their rules. It’s not offensive in either direction actually Having access to a Facebook/YouTube/Twitter/Instagram account is a nice to have It’s not some inalienable right. We lived most of our lives without these things, and you are absolutely free to go say slurs or spew anti semitism or whatever you want, on your own website or in your own home. Or I guess now, in the Elon Regime, it’s say “cisgender”

yep nazis are literally hosting 1488 radio hours on twitter spaces but you still can't use the word 'cis'

That’s Elons priorities and I respect them 🤷🏼‍♀️ he can allow and disallow the speech he wants

pls don't take this the wrong way but i think the reason ppl empowered to do harm to me in public is that most other ppl also have that shrug when objectively bad things that will never impact them are done by rich ppl

I guess I don’t see it. He lets a lot of stuff slide that is harmful to a lot of groups, and it feels presumptuous to assume someone is or isn’t affected. At the end of the day It’s his business he is allowed to run how he wants, and to change that would be a powerful reversal of the free speech norm I actually do believe in, even if he does not fully

big difference between letting stuff slide and making rules prohibiting speech ie he's put cis in the same category as the n word i understand where it comes from, him being a shitty father but it's a dangerous precedent that most ppl just shrug at because it doesn't affect them

I would say enablement of this is vis continued use of the platform. No one *needs* an x account. The only thing to do is vote with your feet, so the business fails. Let the market speak I am not changing anyone’s mind by complaining, I am just elevating and giving the rhetoric of someone I disagree with more reach. He allows hateful conduct of many types as well as the most permissive attitude on medical misinfo which gets people killed. And yet free speech means speech for the scoundrels too. If he wants to turn x into the next 4chan that is his right. He owns it.

that's correct, and it's likely none of the hate that festers there will ever impact you in theory i agree with you on free speech in practice i have personally experienced how elevated hateful rhetoric leads to violence or marginalized ppl being pushed out of society

That is extremely presumptuous to say. The hate that festers over there is extremely wide ranging, spanning races, religions, and women In general? How would you know who was affected and how? What is your proposal for these new national speech rules?

lol i'm not proposing any national speech rules, ppl in general are free to say i'm a man in a dress or that i should be killed for using the women's bathroom i'd just like everyone to acknowledge the extremely dangerous precedent banning the word cis creates / some ppl have the luxury of shrugging

I know that i now have to worry about my safety when going to the bathroom, and i don't think people who are not transgender have to worry about the same kind of impact as there aren't ppl literally advocating for violence against them with the approval of the platform's moderation apparatus
