I think my destiny is to work with and for senior citizens. I keep getting all these signs. I am in Plano visiting my brother. He just moved there, this is the first time I’ve seen his new town and house. Down the street from my house is this rinky dink gym. I walked over there to get a workout in and use the shower, because of course when I come to visit the plumbing breaks at his house. The receptionist is a 77y/o man named Rick. We talked for almost an hour. He got diagnosed with cancer 3 weeks ago and is going in for 2 back to back operations on his lymph nodes and throat next week. We talked about his treatment, his emotions about it all. Who will be taking care of him. He was so excited and full of enthusiasm for my work, too. He took my number so he could show where I work to his wife. As we parted he said, I hope you come back soon. I hope I get back to work soon! And I told him “oh I KNOW you will be back. Don’t worry”

have had a bunch of experience with old people recently as well. made a lot of new elderly friends since covid. but i also have a friend whos a psych for elderly and terminal patients. gives me pause on recommending tying those relationships to work when ive seen how much of a struggle its been for her. its heavy shit
