Do Americans still care about due process? Honest question. I have only been lightly following this El Salvador prison stuff and wondered what the Americans on here thought. I remember trying to describe the importance of due process to Philippinos when Duterte started rounding up people, and most didn’t care. They just wanted the streets “clean”. Duterte ended up being the most popular president of the modern era.

No, not really. Some large % doesn’t understand these rights at all so they don’t know what they are losing. Some other % is happy to see the authoritarian hammer being swung for their team. I understand I am powerless here so I don’t really get too upset.

No one believes or trusts anyone anymore. Media least of all. The details of green card revoking and profiling certainly is scary. Right to assemble is pretty sacred too… I don’t know anyone excited about any of this. However many think of it in taking medicine terms. They didn’t like the open borders. So they aren’t going to be against aggressive deportations.
