As a daughter of a dentist and a dental assistant and a sister of an endodontist, not all dentists are scammers. But anyone pulling teeth except in extreme cases probably is. Dad would do everything possible to save a tooth. 🦷 he would call out shady characters when he saw them and always pushed prevention. That said — the profession got progressively more business-a-fied over the years. Private dentists are better than chains but harder to find. If you find a good one, hang on tight. My dad died 7 years ago and stopped practicing a few years before that. It took me about a decade to find a good one again.

"Dad would do everything possible to save a tooth. " This! I've been going to the same dentist for 7 years. Every time I've had a toothache, he's taken a look and told me to do nothing. And he was right, every time. One time I had a crown crack and he replaced it and the new one looked so much better. So not only does he do great work, but he never sells me any services unless I absolutely need it. Really love the guy.

I know you didn't ask me.... but I think the best way to find a good dentist is to ask the people around you that you trust who they go to.
