Whoaaaaa seeing this from the parent perspective is wild Kind of want to unlock to tell him to go easy on himself, as a sucker myself I don’t hate my mom at all. I feel bad the world turned out this way and I am proud of having good values https://x.com/GestaltU/status/1881322202479624343

It’s cyclical Ironically this is what they mean by “hard times create strong people” The moral bedrock shows up only when there is sufficient erosion It’s not a fun role to play, but it’s the most important once in this part of the cycle. And the parents that inculcated this morality ought to be proud

It’s not too late to capitulate to Mammon 😭 But each moment spent dithering is a moment wasted Trying to stay anchored to truth / dignity / integrity / all these words that don’t return 100x in 24h

Gonna thread-jack. As the father of a 2yo, it's _really_ hard. What do I teach him? Who will be his heroes? What kind of environment do I choose for him? We shut down my startup and we're ok financially but not wealthy. I could relatively easily sacrifice my integrity and be financially set..but what does that do to me? To him? It's kind of a bullshit answer, but right now I'm running towards the chaos with a rope around my waste tied around my waist in the hopes that I can pull myself out of any depths I find myself in.

Sounds like you're doing the right thing I think us terminally online folk tend to over-optimize for wealth / relevance / career and under-optimize for peace End of day, if you love him and anchor him to timeless morals, he'll do fine

Thanks for sharing this 🙏 My son and I had a great evening together and I thought about this and your comment while we were playing. Liked the author's take and feel lucky that my general stance of "you can stack the odds in your favor but you can't control the outcome" keeps me away from ontological nihilism.
