The industry is so consolidated, the margins are so minimal - that the big companies need to fight for anything that prevents added costs.

Industrial pork is depressing AF, and tastes like nada

Unfortunately the market pits pork v beef v chicken.

And the chicken industry has led the race to the bottom price wise for 3-4 decades.

It’s depressing.

Yet our society can afford decent pork on scale.

So I’ve been watching the reaction on twt to the “lobbyists are forcing more  animal cruelty to save money thing” 

There is a fundamental ignorance of what Brix is saying here: that industry consolidation and market dynamics (chicken forcing race to bottom) cause this 

Instead people are saying 

1. Cruelty free meat at scale is impossible and this is why we need bioidentical meat substitutes 

2. Cruelty free meat at scale is impossible, and we should just accept this unless we want to depopulate 

So, in conclusion, we are never fixing anything

Vegetarianism is a thing but people won't even consider it 🤦‍♂️

Eating more vegetables =! abandoning omnivore diet though!

among people who already eat healthy, this may be true if they aren't careful about micronutrients, but that's easy

I do believe we are omnivores at heart. Arguable we eat too much meat, or not enough vegetables, but….

I don't see why. If our society focused more on supporting vegetarian diets, we could sort out a lot of the nutrient balance issues and make things easy and convenient. Seems way easier and better for society and the environment than mass scale lab meat production.
