agree - it should be approached like any other kind of business investment, there needs to be sufficient evidence the idea is needed/wanted and that the team involved can execute it

Disagree. requirement should state to add user insights. Payment should be contingent on achieving milestones and foundations should follow back to track and record impact. 

This isn’t an attack at any specific foundation, but an observation after applying for grants in academia & now web3 since 2010

It might be as you say but one the reasons that I would point out for that is because there’s still people/groups who are hesitant to take a dive into web3. Grants are supposed to go somewhere and if the good ones don’t show up that still shouldn’t stop the wheel from turning!

very much agree. its a rather small insular space still so you get these issues of ppl just having "ideas" & thinking they're great & not doing the strategic research to know/see if they're viable.
