what until you try sporting clays 

it's like golf, with shotguns

We were shooting clays from a launcher, how is sporting clays different?

it's very similar, but the clays are meant to mimic different animals 

a lot of it is the positioning of the launcher 

the clay flies over your head from behind, or in from the right etc.

usually each "stand" is two clays

I really like the rabbits that roll across the ground and bounce

Also, on a sporting clay course, you move from one spot ("stand") to another where the clays are thrown from different locations, at different speeds, from different angles. You have to adjust each time.
