One of the things this site has going for it is that there's obvious and catchy verb that isn't riff on "tweet." The Bluesky people are calling their post a "skeet." Gross. "Cast," the other hand, is so good. It harkens to older analog media, like broadcasting. It also makes me think of fishing, as in casting a rod to see what bites. That also feels like an apt metaphor.

always loved this too! also with farcaster, there are so many play on words and piggybacks. example: farville (instead of farmville)

Good point. I love describing what I do here as "casting," for exactly the reasons you mentioned. (Mastodon using "toot" is gross too).

Word is @dwr.eth and @v were fishing the Madison when Dan whipped out the fish whistle —boom, a fat trout nailed Varun’s line. They cracked up, and V’s like, “bro, what if we cast far out ideas online and hook randos?” Dan’s all, “Far cast, baby.” Farcaster was born. Outfitter cred: @bps 🎣

100%. cast is great. it connects on that emotional level that you describe. I also prefer Farcaster to Warpcast. but that's a whole other thing.

fun fact: farcasters are portals from the hyperion book series that connect two very distant places together so you can travel between them instantaneously very apt name imo :)

Social products should have their own primitives rather than merely imitating successful platforms. Clearly, Warpcast has achieved this, and it also has a great underlying protocol—Farcaster.

Lil Jon re-contextualized the word skeet in 2005 with Get Low. That song was inescapable then and continues to be played, so when Bluesky adopted it I thought they were either ignorant or overly ambitious to think they could usurp it https://youtu.be/IYH7_GzP4Tg?si=K9cJe1_lIxQJ_KSC&t=38
