I wonder how that divergence influences the design of AI and robotics. Is the West taking a default approach of building autonomous agents, whereas the East would rather conceive networked entities that operate as collaborative swarms? And is a speculative AGI really one single entity or more akin to a hive mind?

Historically aware of little work on networked entities for AI in Japan. In fact most AI work that is really beyond the standalone super entity seems from Europe and the US, interestingly from people interested in Eastern philosophies (at least aware). As for Japan, Atom Boy from the 50s exemplifies what I mean.
