Discovery, and finding your principles is one of the meanings and joys of life - it helps you discern what you like and don’t like. It develops a sense of aesthetic, it develops a visceral understanding of the abstract. It’s a powerful guiding tool, I think

Oneself as an instrument - made to channel the abstract into the real

It takes yrs to develop your “instrument” I.e. your aesthetic through trial and error: A) what music do you like B) what sounds can your instrument make

you play your ideas thru the instrument and the sound becomes real. 

Then repeat the cycle

I think principles are generated in both deductive and inductive manner

These principles (speaking for myself) I often I find are about pattern matching, and told down approaches work but only in retrospect - having speed run the breaking them down - so at some point there has to be some creative leaps of faith meet

I always want to do this Ray Dalio style, but it’s hard to get levels right. I tend toward big-picture and get overwhelmed as I’m breaking them down. And it’s not linear. Most principles have a one-to-many relationship with higher-level principles. Finally I decide “everything is everything” and give up.
