“Finding a principle is a form of self-discovery.” Love this formulation — extremely Socratic.

Discovery, and finding your principles is one of the meanings and joys of life - it helps you discern what you like and don’t like. It develops a sense of aesthetic, it develops a visceral understanding of the abstract. It’s a powerful guiding tool, I think

Love how you connect “aesthetic” and “abstract” there. Few!

I always want to do this Ray Dalio style, but it’s hard to get levels right. I tend toward big-picture and get overwhelmed as I’m breaking them down. And it’s not linear. Most principles have a one-to-many relationship with higher-level principles. Finally I decide “everything is everything” and give up.
