Vitriol on X against Sriram’s appointment has so far led to what seems to me a very positive outcome: Sacks and Elon have publicly stood up for putting meritocracy over nationalism when it comes to solving the most critical problems facing the US and the world. A very silver lining to an idiotic cloud.

I’m obviously team Sriram but I suspect these battle lines aren’t changing any time soon. MAGA’s foundation is immigration. All of it.

Ive observed the MAGA base square a lot of ideological circles though. If Trump supports high end immigration, his followers can figure out a way to adjust their worldview for that exception. Hope it will happen. Sacks (vocally) and Elon (more carefully) seem off to the right start.

Idk, I think high end immigration is actually going to poll badly enough with Trump’s base that he’ll move away from it; IE, the idea that “immigrants are taking our jobs” is actually less offensive to the MAGA base than “immigrants are in charge.” There’s no way they’ll be okay with that.
