I suspect people who say they hate running should try walking for several months before trying running. Unless you're either aerobically gifted or already in good shape, any running speed will spike your heart rate uncomfortably high.

Also running is hell on your joints. I always recommend biking, elliptical, or water therapy as aerobic activity for people with joint problems and if you don’t have joint problems and can walk then absolutely do that.

Something interesting I read recently was that tendons adjust to running much slower than muscles. So another reason to ease into running. 3-6 months easy walking/running before adding any intense stuff
