if i could go back and do it again, i would have had the @base account more explicitly say we were going to coin lots of content onchain upfront. i'd been shouting it from the rooftops on my own account, which i mistakenly assumed was enough. to be clear, i still think there would have been the exact same reaction, but it still would have been good to do.

other than that, i feel like it was a good lesson in patience and positivity. when you do things that are norm breaking, there will always be backlash. having conviction in where we're going helps — but it still requires relentless practice to stay calm, cool, and collected.

Any updated thoughts on $toby, @toadgod1017 or the yet-to-be-revealed tobyworld project?

I have conviction that we are on the right path, even if at times it will be curvey, and I stay grounded in that conviction, while i remind myself to be relentlessly positive. no one weird trick, just lots of patience.

How do you deal with the negativity from yesterday?

i generally can feel it in my gut within a few minutes of talking to someone. not really sure how, but it's real.

i also generally ask a few questions whenever i'm interviewing people:

- what motivates you?
- what is a non-consensus opinion you have?
- what's something you've invented?
- what have you done recently onchain?
- what have you done recently with AI?

can generally suss out more with that

i definitely think my quaker upbringing had a big impact. the core values are simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship. i've tried to lean into those at every stage of my life.

one thing I admire about you and am sure others do too is how willing you are to try all of the apps and engage so directly with the community

lil one is doing really well. i've been pleasantly surprised that there's now something / someone / an activity that i love as much as base. honestly, was a little nervous about what i'd feel, and it feels good to be on the other side.

i think they can be! in general, i think all of these different primitives should be considered as more interchangeable. we get locked into specific mental models, but i think that's not really helpful

honestly, it hasn't change *that* much just yet - they are still kind of in the blob phase where they are also pretty flexible on schedule. we are going to bed a bit earlier and i wake up a bunch in the middle of the night. i am having a harder time finding time to work out. but honestly, i was expecting more of a change — i think it'll come soon :)

top priority right now is upgrading @coinbasewallet so it can be a better distribution channel - then working with other consumer app builders to drive more distribution as well (ideally through all of us building on the shared feed of farcaster)

i think creators are the next important segment of people to bring onchain. anything creator related is good. i think coins will be at the center.

i think we need 1-2 apps to start breaking out, then they will come back in. that timeline is up to us :)

what kindof new distribution channels is base cultivating to bring more users onchain?

we spent a year trying to build onchain products and kept running into the problem of not having a good place to build. so after trying and failing a bunch to build products, we decided to build the platform. that platform is base.
