biggest unfair advantage is *actually* thinking strategically. shocking how few people ever have a clear strategy for what they are doing. I've found Good Strategy, Bad Strategy to be a simple, intuitive guide and framework for doing it well. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11721966-good-strategy-bad-strategy

This is spot on. In the rush to remove all strategy thinking/verbiage from startups over the last decade or two, the baby has largely been thrown out with the bathwater. Sitting around a table preparing 50 page decks for a steerco? Bad (at a startup). Thinking through risks, tradeoffs, and having a plan? Good.

“Strategy does not eliminate scarcity and its consequence—the necessity of choice. Strategy is scarcity’s child and to have a strategy, rather than vague aspirations, is to choose one path and eschew others.” Would love your thoughts on the paths eschewed to become based!

It just has to be a well thought out practical but flexible strategy to work if you are going to places where no one has been
