I find remote + 1 week in person 3-4 times per year is the best. Diminishing returns to being IRL when not enough high level stuff has "piled up", IMO. Biggest exception is very early stage companies (<10?), where things can change every day so the best setup is probably literally living together. Doesn't scale, tho!

Love that you called it in "onsite". It's been pretty counter-intuitive that most people are calling them "offsites" at a fully remote company.

Haha this is my stance on WFH... I love working remotely! But I love working in person! Too much of one in a row gets old though.

It's a hard trifecta to achieve: ✅work is in a place where you also like to live ✅people you work with are people you like to be around ✅workplace is a nice environment to work from I'm extremely happy I have all 3 atm

It would take some adjusting to spend that many hours around people that aren’t family at this point!

We do a team “health check” every quarter, where we ask questions like “the work I’m doing is valuable”, “I feel connected to my coworkers”, “I’m compensated fairly”, etc. We’ve found that overall health peaks during onsites, and diminishes over time until the next onsite, where it peaks again.

💯 100% believe that the vast majority of in-person work can be had through remote work + in person creative, collaborative offsites a few times a year. It’s sobering to think we were trading off hours of our lives for commute & office life.

more a comment on the team than being in person broadly I think in person is just more immersive and multisensory. that could be good or bad depending on who you’re in person with
