One idea I think is really good is community supported policing. Most businesses cannot afford Lance Armstrong’s private police. But you could organize a small group on a block that could together could afford these amenities. Start a private security firm with an SLA mandated response time for in person responders, and augment that with digital surveillance like Flock https://www.flocksafety.com/ Organize the community to say enough and sell to the group as a whole

Most of these big camps w/ chop shops no longer exist ever since they reinstated the camping ban. Camps that do pop up get swept and emptied regularly. These camps or their residents are not the problem; they are a symptom of decades of under resourcing and bad policy around homelessness. If you want to rally your community, do it in support of building more temporary housing and providing resources for unhoused neighbors, not villainizing them.
