Welcome to @jasoncrawford.eth! Jason is the founder of The Roots of Progress, a non-profit dedicated to progress studies. In addition, he has served as an advisor for Our World in Data and as a guest lecturer at MIT. His essay, We Need A New Philosophy of Progress, is one of the best arguments for techno-optimism that I've read: https://rootsofprogress.org/we-need-a-new-philosophy-of-progress/ He has agreed to do an AMA for the /books channel as part of the ongoing Silicon Valley Canon course. Reply with your questions. :)

i would like to know how your reading journey started out, what made you get hooked and what books did you look at first and would recommend a beginner try out.

One of the first books I read that got me hooked was Joel Mokyr's A Culture of Growth. In the early days I was just trying to understand human progress, and especially the industrial age, and I read a bunch of books about different aspects of the Industrial Revolution, like steam power and cotton. I got hooked from there, totally fascinated and gradually became obsessed with the topic, until I finally quit my job in the tech industry to do it full-time. My top-five book recs are Enlightenment Now, The Beginning of Infinity, Where Is My Flying Car?, The Rise and Fall of American Growth, and The Wizard and the Prophet You can find those and many more book suggestions here: https://blog.rootsofprogress.org/bibliography
