starting to find a lot of joy making recipes from cookbooks over searching on google it’s a lot easier when i know the chef/author has a similar palette/cooking style that i like vs seo optimized recipes i also really appreciate the chefs notes about the dish and some of the cultural significance of it

currently looking through sheldon simeons cookbook. made his beef stew last week. gonna make some charred cabbage with shrimp paste compound butter, lime/basil chinese eggplant, and maybe some kewpie mayo/sriracha brussel sprouts.

omg his restaurant Star Noodle on maui is soooo good. i haven't actually checked to see if it burned down in the fires. have you been to any of his spots? anything with mayo is a hard pass from me, but i would mop some beef stew.

@mensatheliterate has been to one of his restaurants! id love to at some point. beef stew was like 4/5. i was hoping for a stronger beef flavor but that may have been due to the beef stock i bought and not the recipe. otherwise really easy brown meat, toss onions in, then toss carrots, celery, and seasoning in. let simmer for 2 hours and eat. i love when chefs make things super home cook friendly
