How much whining is to be expected and tolerated? Say for 3-5 years old, or something I don't have a baseline for my expectations

Between 23-24hrs a day is normal But really everyone has a different method I think we ended up going with something like , “ I don’t understand what you’re saying can you use words, please?” Plus, a little ridicule, we called the behavior being a “whiny Piner”

Every kid is different. With our first ( 4 y/o) we set a firm boundary of requiring he speak to us without whining before we’ll engage further. “I can't understand you when you whine like that. I want to help you, but you need to say it calmly, without whining for me to understand” is our go to. If he keeps whining, there's absolutely no way he gets what he wants.

Our 4th kid is now 5 yrs old. Still ask this daily. With Kid 1: “can you please use your words so we can help you achieve your goals?” With Kid 4: “you sound like a whale”
