I was following along early when they were still figuring out what Passes is

Core insight they and others found is you have a few long tail patrons that are willing to pay to message. That is per message per “creator”

They (at least before) claimed to target non-NSFW creators that play the line at suggestive

I haven’t checked recently to see if they flipped on that stance. The thing I found most fascinating about the core insight is that it looks like paying for messages is about access and not the promise of more NSFW content
