If someone with an interest in removing regulations is already paying their salary then they may be smart. Think Heritage Foundation, Goldman Sachs and similar. Outside private interests paying them and DOGE making their own expenditure reports smaller than they would be.

To play devil's advocate, I don't think there's any evidence to show he made wealth from apartheid. Elon founded Zip2 with his brother and one other guy then eventually sold it. He was working in the USA illegally for the first few years of the company though, and that makes him a huge hypocrite in regards to illegal immigration. He did get pushed out of PayPal cause he's an asshole and then was very hostile as Tesla grew. I'm not sure any of this prevents smart people from working for him though as plenty already do.

I would think that smart people don't want to work for an ultra rich billionaire who's primary wealth was built on apartheid, who was fired from zip2, fired from paypal, forced his way into tesla and then sued the original founders out of the company so we could claim founders rights, forced employees to return to work or risk their jobs during a global pandemic. I know I'm not applying lol.
