I've never been to Ukraine but I would assume any area associated with Nazis would be moreso in the west close to Germany, no?

Culturally speaking, It'd be like if the yellow area was Texas, Idaho, Alabama, etc.. Not the eastern coast. The rest of the US wouldn't be sad about that.
